Hearth

Designed for a young couple expecting their first child, this project transforms a terraced house in Balham to create a light-filled family space at the heart of the home.

The brief centred on forming a generous kitchen and dining area where everyday life could unfold together. The design takes a soft, minimal approach, with careful attention to proportion and detailing to create a calm and cohesive interior.

A key move was the refinement of the roof structure, developed to minimise its perceived thickness in elevation. The roof line is pulled forward to terminate before the glazing, creating a crisp, uninterrupted edge that enhances the sense of openness both internally and towards the garden.

The result is a modern yet welcoming home, where restrained detailing and natural light support daily family life.
